The MIR trio aims to bring rare gems of music to the concert stage, in a quest to give recognition to underrepresented composers of past and present generations. MIR trio’s name symbolizes their mission and ethos: not only does the name mean peace, but it unites the forces of three Toronto talents: Mark Skazinetsky on violin, Igor Gefter on cello, and Rachael Kerr on piano.
Together, their passion for both the classics and undiscovered works is bringing a breath of fresh air to the current chamber music scene. The trio is especially excited to partner with the Jewish community of Toronto by emphasizing music by living composers specifically representing the Jewish people and culture.
"The art of music requires the efforts of composers, performers, and listeners. Without great performers, composers would be like birds without wings and audiences without ears. The MIR Trio is a wonderful intermediary between a composer and a listener ... a true champion of the magic of music."
- Michael Pepa, Founding Artistic Director, Les Amis Concerts
"The MIR Trio is a refreshing addition to Toronto's musical landscape. Three stellar musicians with nuance and balance in their playing, as well as uncanny ability to find brilliantly tasty and crowd-pleasing material."
- Aliza Spiro, Artistic Director, Jewish Music Week in Toronto
